This is our official last day of instruction. Topic is multi-track RECORDERS, specifically the Sound Devices 688 with CL-12 companion fader controller. Note that on the homepage 3, there are links to instructional videos...

On Dec 4th or so, I will provide you all with the take-home FINAL EXAM, which is due on our Finals Day which is Dec 11. The final is similar to Quiz 2, with 11 short answer questions.

Our lecture topic on Dec 4th will be: Getting Started in the Industry including how to creatively embellish on a resume. Officially, attendance on the 4th is optional, and we will not take roll. But this is stuff that you will never see printed in a textbook.

As per our syllabus, there are two remaining short projects. Both of these are due on Dec 4th. If you want, you may combine them into one paper or one submission; or turn them in separately. Either way, each written project is worth 10 points.

Written Assignment #3
Briefly explain the difference between PROXIMITY and TRANSPARENT lavaliers. Also, describe how you would determine whether a lavalier was Proximity or Transparent, since no mics are labeled as such. List two examples, each, of a proximity and transparent lavalier.

Written assignment #4
Last week we discussed the use of multi-track formats.
1) What is monaural?
2) What is dual mono?
3) What is dual mono attenuated?
4) What is the difference between two track discreet vs stereo?
5) Suggest how you might deploy your tracks if using a 4-track digital recorder?
6) What is the difference between an ISO track and a live mix?
