Cinela01Cinela Piano Blimp reviewed by Thi Dinh.

This sophisticated blimp is brought to you by Cinela. As I was saying from previous article, Cinela makes superb shockmounts. Now, imagine this, the shockmount is barricaded with a highly engineered cage. The cage (blimp) is highly engineered to ensure the best acoustic, and flat frequency response. Furthermore, the blimp is suspended separately from the shockmount which allows it to move independently from each other. This maximized the isolation from the microphone and the blimp, so there will be no contact noise from the wind travels to the shotgun microphone.

Cinela02When purchasing the blimp, the buyer have a choice of long fur or short fur. The short fur is for high wind, and the long fur is for very high wind. In addition to that, Cinela also offers a water resistant, rain cover, for the blimp (picture on the left). The rain cover comes with a special spray that will make the cover resist water. This is an extremely helpful tool for filming in less than ideal weather.

I recently retired my rode blimp, and replaced it with the Cinela blimp after fell in love with their shockmount. It was a life changing experience. With the sophisticated engineering that yield total acoustic transparency, and minimize handling noise - it makes my production quality elevate to a new level. Equally important, the Cinela blimp is very light weight comparing to its competitors. This will help your Boom Op going for many hours.

Cinela Piano blimp is currently compatible with the following mics: DPA 4017, Sennheiser 416, Sanken CS3e, Schoeps CMIT 5U, Neumann KMR 81, and Sennheiser MKH 60.
