Fred Ginsburg instructing at NAB.Production Sound Mixing is the complex craft of recording crisp and clean dialogue & sound effects on the set during film or video production. Yet although Sound Mixers are traditionally seen but not heard,  Fred Ginsburg,  has become quite the exception! Over the past decade, Fred has conducted numerous hands-on training seminars for a multitude of organizations across the country including universities, professional associations, trade-shows, expos, broadcasters, corporations, and government agencies.

Most of the seminars that we participate in are sponsored by outside organizations or tradeshow events, who hire us to come in and conduct the workshop. Occasionally we do offer seminars on our own; details of these events will be posted here on the site.

In addition, Fred Ginsburg is available as a Guest Lecturer for your course in progress; and even as a private tutor or production consultant.

Although specific content will, of course, vary based on the needs and backgrounds of the participants, topics covered can include:

  • What is Production Sound?
  • Pre-production planning and budgeting for sound.
  • Recording Priorties of the Mixer
  • Duties of the sound crew.
  • Microphone basics.
  • Selection and application of microphones.
  • Microphone boom techniques.
  • Advanced usage of lavaliers and wireless mics. Including how to rig lavaliers.
  • Advanced use of plant mics.
  • Use of the portable mixing console. Including both ENG mixers and mixing boards.
  • Use of multi-track recorders for location dialogue.
  • Set etiquette.
  • Business practices.
  • Getting started in the industry.

Our workshops include plenty of question & answer, along with as much hands-on as the framework permits.
