NAB 2012 passcodes

In a few month, it will be time for the annual NAB tradeshow in Las Vegas. Free registration pass codes are available all over the internet; just Google! But for the benefit of our readers, here are some codes that should work for you.
Note that all of these codes are for free Exhibit Hall Registration and do not include the special NAB seminars & workshops (except for those events that are advertised as free/open to all attendees).
To register for NAB, just go to: http://registration3.experient-inc.com/showNAB121/Default.aspx?App=EO and when prompted, enter one of the following discount codes:
EM01, SM06, LV2181, LV0675, EP12.
These are only a few of the dozens of free codes out there. Almost every exhibitor has been assigned a code, so the internet is just full of them.
Even if you are uncertain about attending, I recommend that you go ahead and register. It doesn't cost you anything, and there is no penalty for not attending. On the other hand, if you wait until the last minute, you may be too late for free registration and/or mailed credentials. That may result in having to wait in a long line at the show, and possibly having to fork up some cash.
Book your hotel room NOW. The longer that you wait, the more expensive the rooms become. Once the City senses a large turnout, you will discover that the economy rooms are suddenly no longer available, and the hotels only offer their more expensive bookings. (Same rooms, just more expensive!)
Avoid booking through the Internet travel service sites. In the event of a cancellation, it is often very difficult to get a refund out of them. Much better to just call the hotel (or go to the hotel's own site) and reserve your room directly. That way, should you change your mind about attending the show (or find a better deal somewhere else) -- a simple phone call cancels the reservation and immediately refunds any credit card deposits. At some hotels, you can even cancel up to 24 or 48 hours before.
The NAB Show exhibits run from Monday, April 16 through Thursday, April 19, 2012. Show hours are long: 9am until 6pm on Mon-Wed; earlier closing on Thursday. As you can imagine, Monday and Tuesday are the busiest days of the show, since most people arrive over the weekend.
Don't even think for a moment that you can see it all; even if you do the whole 4 days. This is the largest film/video/radio tradeshow in the USA. Just walking briskly from one end to the other, without stopping to look at booths, takes 20 to 30 minutes!
The best strategy is to pick out a handful of exhibitors, and really spend a lot of time in one place. The large exhibitors offer free workshops right there in their booths (pavillions), but expect to spend an hour or two per venue.
NAB is also the best place to network. Attendees often make the mistake of trying to establish contacts with the manufacturer's booth personnel. Instead, you should be concentrating on making friends and sharing professional contact information with the other attendees standing around you. Those are the contacts that could lead to work, or resources. Professionals from all over the world attend NAB, and chances are, if they are looking at the same gear you are, you all have a lot in common. It is the best way to extend your professional sphere.
I hope to see you all this spring in Las Vegas.
Once again, as in past years, yours truly (Fred Ginsburg) will be explaining stuff and doing workshops on behalf of Audio Technica. If I am not teaching some special workshop in one of the NAB's side rooms, odds are that I will be parked at the Audio Technica booth. Come on by and say hello.
